Qualcomm’s Quick Charge Technology- the reason why your smartphone charges quickly

Always wondered, why your new smartphone charged more quickly than your old ones? Well, here’s the answer. Qualcomm announced, yesterday, that its Quick Charge 1.0 technology is helping more than 70 Snapdragon-based smartphones and tablets charge quickly.

Qualcomm claims that the Quick Charge technology can reduce the charging time by nearly 40 percent, when compared to previous generation of Android devices. So, basically, if other smartphones take 3 hours to charge completely, a Quick Charge technology based phone would charge in less than 2 hours.

If you’re wondering how they pulled it off, here’s the catch. The Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) technology, that draws more power and enables fast charging, works analogously with the USB connector. So, it looks like a normal USB connector from the outside, but it’s more dexterous and well calibrated in nature.

With more devices getting higher-capacity battery, there’s an indubitable need for a technology that charges the device faster. With smartphones crossing the 3000mAh threshold, we need a technology that charges those smartphones in the expected time-span of 2-4 hours.

Though only 70 devices support the Quick Charge technology, but Qualcomm has assured that they would be porting their innovative technology to more devices in the future.

Faster charging time would mean less waiting at the coffee bars or airports for your phone to charge, or hanging around with your phone’s charger plugged in to the wall socket.
