Huawei may not be a big name in the U.S., but they do make a lot of quality phones. The Chinese manufacturer has some great phones in its Android lineup and the company will be launching its latest flagship Android phone at the Mobile World Congress that is going to be held in Barcelona this month.
The handset we’re talking about is called as Huawei Ascend P2. Being a flagship device, it is said to pack a lot of punch in terms of hardware, but the main highlight however is the expected price. Huawei has always been pricing its phones reasonably in the past and they are relatively more affordable than other big shot manufacturer’s products. Even in this case, the price tag of this upcoming device is said to be affordable, and it will be allegedly sold for 3,000 yuan, which roughly converts to a bit over US $480.
The price seems worth considering the hardware it is expected to come packed with. The Huawei Ascend P2 will be coming with the custom 8 core processor called HiSilicon K3V3. Having more cores does not necessarily correspond to better performance, but the device will be super interesting, and perhaps it will be interesting how it will perform against Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa processor which also comes with 8 cores. The mobile chip is Samsung’s first shot at ARM’s big.LITTLE processor architecture, with dual quad-core setup – four Cortex-A15 cores, and four Cortex-A7 ones, with a lot of thermal and power management in-between. It should be noted that in Exynos 5 Octa processor, only 4 cores will be running at a time, so it will be either the A15 cores functioning or A7 cores doing the job. As we know, A15 eats a lot of power, but is good at doing jobs quickly, whereas the A7 cores are of course slower than A15 in calculations, but consume far less power. Many have criticized that Exynos 5 Octa isn’t a true 8 core processor as only 4 cores function at a time. It is said that HiSilicon K3V3 is based on Cortex-A15 ARM architecture, but no further information is available on the same.
The processor is interesting, so are the other hardware features. According to sources, the device will be coming with 1 gig of RAM, which is pretty much standard for a high end device these days. Also, the 2 gig RAM version is expected to retail for a bit more. The display on the Huawei Ascend P2 should be ranging between 4.5 to 5.0 inches in diagonal and will boast either 720p or 1080p resolution. I’m expecting a 4.7 inch screen with 1080p full HD resolution, just like the one that will be featured in the upcoming HTC M7 flagship. The device will supposedly pack a big 3,000mAh battery. The device looks definitely interesting right now, and for the said price, it should be worth every penny. I’m a bit skeptical about the processor, nevertheless, the handset will be one among the hottest out there when launched.
