It looks like BlackBerry is back in the game with their latest model the Z10. This new model which runs on the latest BlackBerry 10 operating system made its debut last February 5 over at Canada and the company has reported that their latest model made record breaking sales in its first day alone.
Canadian carrier Rogers has also released a statement that the Z10 set various BlackBerry records for them as well. The company sold more BlackBerry units on February 5 than any other day in its history. The company also activated thousands of Z10 models that day. Several Rogers stores are reporting that they have run out of stocks and additional units were delivered to them.
In the UK Phones 4U has reported that the latest BlackBerry device has sold out in 55% of its 680 locations. According to Scott Hooton, Chief Commercial Officer at Phones 4u, “As Phones 4u is currently the only place people can get their hands on the BlackBerry Z10 in white, it has been a huge success and continues to sell extremely well. A large number of our stores DID sell out of the white model on launch weekend, but because we knew demand was so high and we didn’t want anyone to miss out on getting one, we replenished stock within hours.”
This latest model from Blackberry won’t be making an official appearance in the US until March. Those who can’t wait to get their hands on the device have jumped across the Canadian border and got themselves a Rogers or Telus unit and have it unlocked for use in their US based carrier.
Unlock Blackerry Z10
Here’s how you can unlock the BlackBerry Z10 so you can use it on AT&T or T-Mobile. First you’ll have to get your hand on an actual unit. If your Z10 comes from Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin Mobile or Koodo then you are in luck since the unlock codes for these networks are already available.
We’ve found that Crackberry has a great solution here (find the green “Unlock My Blackerry” on the left sidebar toward the bottom). The price for unlocking is as follows
- For BlackBerry 10 on Telus or Bell: $30.00 USD
- For BlackBerry 10 on Rogers: $45.00 USD
- For BlackBerry 10 on any other network: $150.00 USD
Unlocking the device using an unlock code is the safest method that is guaranteed to work permanently. You will need to provide accurate information though for this to become successful. Only two pieces of information are required from you which are your device carrier and your device IMEI.
The IMEI can either be taken from the box your unit came with or by going to Settings > About > and selecting Hardware.
Once you have this information it will take between 3 to 24 hours for your unlock code to arrive.
As soon as your unlock code arrives you can proceed to unlock your device in just three simple steps.
- Go to Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card
- Scroll down to Phone Network Lock, and tap the Unlock Network button
- Enter your 8 digit unlock code, and hit OK.
Make sure you enter the 8 digit code correctly since you only have 10 tries to do it before your device becomes completely useless.
