Google’s retail store resurfaces without much info

Google Store mock design

If you take a look at the sources of income of the Cupertino tech giant, you would realize that the company is making a lot of money from all of its physical Apple Stores across the world. Physical stores are always good because the customers will get a chance to see the devices and also get a feel of it. This increases the chances of a person entering the store becoming a customer of the company.

Seeing the success of the Cupertino tech giant in this, Microsoft also started its physical stores back in 2009. But we all know how well that is going. The Redmond based software giant is not yet completely successful in selling the same number of devices as Apple sells in its stores. During Black Friday, Apple easily sold five times more devices per hour compared to Microsoft’s stores.

Now, there is a rumor that Google is working on opening its own physical stores, made of brick and mortar. The company is still in the planning stage, so there is no actual physical work going on. The company’s Nexus branded devices have started gaining some really good momentum and the search engine giant definitely wants to tap this.

The rumor has it that the company will be selling Nexus branded devices along with its Chromebooks running the Chrome operating system. Sources have told that this plan was inside Google for quite some time. But they have also said that the company might not act on it till 2014. This means that the doors of Google’s physical stores will not open till 2004. And if we have learnt anything from history, Google will be designing these stores to give the Apple Stores a good competition. But Apple already has patents for its Apple Store’s design and layout, covering the distinctive all-glass storefront and facade, interior recessed lighting, Genius Bar and rectangular tables, among other design cues.
