During the recently held CES we first saw the new line of Platinum tablets coming from Archos. Today, the company has officially announced the tablets and have also given a release date and pricing. A total of three tablets will be making their way to the market which are the Platinum 80, Platinum 97, and the Platinum 116.
The common features among these three tablets are listed below.
- High-Definition IPS display with capacitive multi-touch screen
- QUAD core CPU at 1.2 GHz with 8-core GPU, with 1080p video decoding
- 2 GB RAM
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- Full access to the 700,000 applications
- Archos Media Center applications
- Front and Back Cameras
- Mini-HDMI and Micro SD ports
The Archos 80 Platinum will come with an 8 inch display with 1024×768 resolution, the Archos 97 Platinum HD has a 9.7 inch display with 2048×1536 resolution, and the Archos 116 Platinum has a 11.6 inch display with a 1920×1080 resolution.
To be released anytime this month are the Platinum 80 and Platinum 97 HD. The 80 will cost $199 while the 97 HD will be priced at $299. Arriving later in April is the Platinum 116 which will have a retail price of $349.
The most interesting model among the three has to be the Archos 97 Platinum HD which has an impressive 2048×1536 resolution. It’s actually comparable to the Retina display of the iPad yet comes at a price that is 40% cheaper. Anyone who is on a tight budget looking for an iPad alternative should definitely consider getting this device.
