We rarely associate Sony with tablets and this is despite the company launching the Tablet S and Tablet P in 2011. But last year at the IFA 2012 event, Sony launched the Xperia Tablet S which was apparently the successor to the Tablet S from 2011. This tablet was clearly an upgrade over the Tablet S and had all the hardware specs to back it up. The quad core CPU, the HD display, it had it all. But all of this was until the Nexus 10 arrived in the scene. This tablet actually was easily forgotten once the Nexus 10 and the new (new) iPad made its way to the market. Which is understandable as Sony hardly had any time to impress the customers with its offering. And now, we’re hearing of a newer Sony tablet, which will apparently be known as the Xperia Tablet Z. We’re not sure if it has anything to do with the recently announced Xperia Z, the quad core 1080p droid. But it seems like this one too will feature top end specs according to the leaked hardware info of the tablet.
The rumor stems from Twitter as with any leak these days and it is believed that this new tablet will sport a 10.1-inch 1080p Full HD display. 10.1-inch has increasingly been the benchmark for flagship Android tablets, and quite fairly these tablets haven’t found much success. Moving on, the tablet is also said to sport a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The tablet is also believed to sport a mammoth 6,000 mAh battery along with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running on board. The tablet is also rumored to have an 8.1MP camera on the back along with a 2.2MP camera on the front. The tablet apparently will be water resistant like the Xperia Z was. Of course these are just preliminary specifications of the device, and there’s actually no word on whether or not we’ll actually see the tablet being launched, but it’s good to have information on a highly spec’d Android tablet like this one.
Looking at the spec sheet, it almost seems like a sized up version of the Xperia Z smartphone, which raises certain amount of suspicion about the authenticity of this leak. Regardless, we’ll take this in the right spirit for now and hope all or part of this is real. What do you think of the Xperia Tablet Z? Is it too good to be true?
