Sony launched several good phones last year, and one of them was the flagship Sony Xperia S. Sony devices are better known for their camera and music quality. We expect Sony to bring out more awesome phones in the year 2013. We have had a lot of rumors in the past about a device named Yuga, and it will apparently be announced officially at the CES which is going to take place on January 7th, though it will be called as Xperia Z instead of Yuga.
There have been several clues that Sony is indeed going to launch the device at CES. The latest clue is coming from the Japanese technology major itself. Folks at Engadget have spotted that the devices have made a premature debut on the company’s official website. The image above shows the device, and as you can see, the design is pretty impressive. The device on the left is Xperia Z and on the right is the Xperia ZL, codenamed Yuga and Odin respectively.
The devices will feature the much talked 5-inch screen with a 1080p display, just like the HTC Droid DNA. Not many devices in the current market have 1080p display, and these two Xperia devices would of course be a good addition. Though the official specs aren’t out yet, we do know a lot about the duo. According to the past rumors, the duo will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core SoC which is clocked at 1.5GHz, which is the same SoC that powers LG Nexus 4 and HTC Droid DNA. Apart from the quad core CPU, the device will be using 2 gigs of RAM and Adreno 320 graphics, along with a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor on the rear. On examining the picture, we can see that ZL’s front-facing camera is positioned on the bottom, which is a bit off. Of course the devices will be housing the Sony BRAVIA engine.
It’s not the first time we are seeing pictures of these 2 phones, however, the above picture comes from an official source and hence it can be trusted. Also, it is worth noting that the official picture is in line with the previously seen photographs of the Xperia Z. The Xperia Z follows the company’s standard design, but the ZL cuts down on some of the unwanted bezel while repositioning the front-facing camera. I personally like the ZL due to its thinner bezel.
It’s always nice to have confirmation from a manufacturer that a leaked device exists before the official unveiling. Now that the design is confirmed, all we need is an official confirmation on the specs, and for that we have to wait till Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013 unless Sony decides to commit another mistake and leak the details before the launch. The Xperia Z or Yuga is expected to have an availability date of January 15th, so it’s not too far. What are your thoughts on the device? Let us know in the comment section below.
