The Sony Xperia Tablet Z isn’t a mystery to us anymore. We briefly learnt of the alleged new Sony tablet a couple of days ago and were instantly impressed and surprised at the same time. Sony has never been too much of a player in the tablet arena as history is evidence. But the Xperia Tablet Z seemed to be promising as it was believed to pack a gorgeous display and a unique set of features like the rumored IP55 and IP57 certification for being dust and water proof. And now, we’re learning that the device could be unveiled in Japan as early as next week. There’s hardly anything to go with here except for a website that indicated the tablet’s presence, which has been taken down now. The website which leaked out the info belongs to Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The carrier has been rumored to be the bearer of the tablet in the country and it suggested that users will be able to check out the tablet themselves in NTT DoCoMo retail outlets in Japan from January 23 to January 27. The tablet apparently will see an announcement in Japan on January 22.
What makes the info more believable is the taking down of the website which revealed the info, so we’re fairly certain Sony is cooking up something special for its home turf. Unwired View suggests that this early announcement could only be for Japan and that the world market could see the tablet being announced at next month’s MWC event in Barcelona, which makes complete sense as manufacturers usually tend to be more favorable towards their home country, which is the case with Huawei in China. If you understand Japanese, the image above should be pretty self-explanatory. And even if you don’t you can probably read the last few lines of the image where the word Xperia Tablet Z is clearly mentioned, which reaffirms the report’s authenticity.
We’re guessing most of the features which were revealed in the previous leak will be retained in the final version, but there’s a possibility of Sony changing the specs a little. As of now, we know that the Xperia Tablet Z packs a 10.1-inch Full HD LCD with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip is believed to be running the tablet which will be accompanied by 2GB of RAM and probably 16/32GB storage variants. The tablet is also rumored to sport a 6,000 mAh battery pack. In the camera department, the Xperia Tablet Z apparently packs an 8MP rear camera with all the Sony goodies bundled in as well as a 2MP front facing camera for self portraits. Let’s hope this Sony tablet sees the light of the day as the market is currently crowded with budget tablets all over and this could certainly make a decent addition to the list.
