Sony appears to be offering the Xperia ZL smartphone in red, in addition to black and white, if the photos purportedly leaked online are accurate.
It would be remembered that images of the smartphone, along with those of the Xperia Z, were revealed through a leak a while back. Last week, Sony finally made an official announcement regarding the Xperia ZL, as well as the Xperia Z, during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. During the announcement, the electronics giant made mention that the Xperia ZL would be available in the two aforementioned colors.
Xperia Blog, however, published the photos, fuelling speculation. It also noted that on Sony Developer, a post indicates that the Xperia ZL would indeed have three colors.
The Xperia Blog adds that the smartphone was seen at a launch event in South East Asia for the Xperia phones. According to the information that they received, the red Xperia ZL is “a prototype only and currently Sony Mobile has no plans to release this globally.”
Still, perhaps Sony would consider releasing it, just to expand the options for the device, especially if the company observes that demand for the red Xperia ZL could be high.
Meanwhile, those who cannot wait for the red-coated smartphone may opt for the one in black or white, instead. Touted by Sony as an “amazingly compact” device, the Xperia ZL boasts of a 5-inch scratch-resistant TFT display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and support for 16 million colors. Inside, it comes with a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm MSM8064 Quad Core processor and features Google Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Joining the list is a13 megapixel camera with Exmor RS for mobile with HDR video plus a 2-megapixel front camera that is capable of 720p HD video chat. It is powered by a battery that promises ten hours of talk time and 500 hours of standby time. The smartphone has dimensions of 5.18 x 2.7 x 0.39 inches and weighs 5.33 ounces.
