Microsoft had promised long back that they will be releasing an update for legacy Windows Phone devices. The update, Windows Phone 7.8, will supposedly bring some features from the latest Windows Phone 8 devices to older phones. Sadly, the older phones cannot be upgraded to Windows Phone 8 due to lack of hardware capabilities requires to run the latest iteration of Windows Phone OS, hence Windows Phone 8 should calm the users down and make them feel that their devices are not outdated yet.
Several months have passed since the announcement, however, there is no word on when exactly the roll out will begin. Users are obviously growing impatient, and to add salt over the wound, new devices are already shipping with Windows Phone 7.8, so obviously the update is ready, but apparently the manufacturers are waiting for a green signal from Microsoft, which hasn’t been given yet, and should be given by end of this month.
Manufacturers like Nokia have already reported about the upcoming update, and now Samsung has reported too. Samsung Omnia W is a great Windows Phone 7.x device, and obviously it will receive update, but the company is adding some additional features in order to make the device more functional. The word is that the Windows Phone 7.8 update will not only bring the new resizable live tiles, the Bing lockscreen wallpaper and the twenty new color themes among other changes, but it will also add Wi-Fi tethering to the phone. Wi-Fi tethering is a very good option to have, and most of the Android phones come with that out of the box, but sadly Windows Phone 7.5 didn’t, but Samsung will be including this feature on their ROM. It should be noted that the feature is coming from Samsung themselves, so Nokia users may not get this feature when their legacy devices are updated to Windows Phone 7.8.
“The release of new updates (like updating to Windows Phone 7.8) is programmed with timing dictated directly by Microsoft.
When you choose to provide this update, we will also implement the function of tethering Omnia W “
Wi-Fi tethering will obviously add that extra gravy on Windows Phone 7.8, especially since Samsung users won’t be getting some exclusive new features that are coming to Nokia users. Below is a summary of features that will be making to Windows Phone 7.8:
• New homescreen experience with more room for your Live Tiles. Now resizable.
• Set the Bing image of the day as the Lock Screen wallpaper.
• Pocket and child Lock screen Security
• 20 new accent theme colours
• Bluetooth Share (for DRM free media files)

• New camera lenses to remove unwanted objects in your photos such as passers-by or people on the edge of the shot the spoil the photo.
