It has been a few months since Apple launched its iPad mini product, which is a 7.9 inch version of the full sized iPad. The iPad mini is smaller, more portable and is convenient to hold in one hand and comes with a smaller price tag. The product has been doing great in countries such as China and Apple’s biggest rival, Samsung, has got some plans for a competing device.
Samsung is now planning to launch Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and we received some confirmation from unofficial sources that the South Korean company will be indeed launching this device at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2013) that is happening in February this year. We previously had some information on the specs of this new iPad mini killer and now an image has surfaced which claims to be of the new upcoming tablet from Samsung.
The image allegedly has a screengrab of an official image of the Galaxy Note 8.0 from probably some Spanish website. It’s a white device and comes with rounded corners like the one found on Galaxy S3’s design. It looks like Samsung is forcing the S3 design lines on all the upcoming devices. The image also shows the back of the device, and it’s pretty much standard. It is plain with a Samsung logo and a rear facing camera, and no, the camera doesn’t come with flash.
The image also shows the specs in Spanish, and like rumored before, it comes with no full HD screen, but instead the 1,280 x 800-pixel display we heard about. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will allegedly be powered by quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and HSPA+ cellular connectivity. The device comes with a 5-megapixel auto-focus rear camera and a front facing 1.3MP camera.
Below is the previously leaked spec sheet of Galaxy Note 8.0:
⦁ Code name: Kona
⦁ Platform: Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
⦁ Official name: GALAXY Note 8.0 (3G, Wi-Fi)
⦁ Product codes: GT-N5100, GT-N5110
⦁ Battery: 4,600 mAh
⦁ Dimensions: 211.3 × 136.3 × 7.95 mm , 330 grams
⦁ Display: 8.0-inch 1280×800 TFT (Super Clear LCD)
⦁ Processor: 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos 4412
⦁ Cameras: 5-Megapixel rear, 1.3-megapixel front
⦁ Internal storage: 16/32GB (optional) + microSD (up to 32GB)
⦁ RAM: 2GB
⦁ Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS
⦁ GSM networks: EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) HSPA+21.1Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps (850/900/1900/2100)
The specs seem pretty okay since the device is aiming to complete with Apple’s iPad mini and these specs will be sufficient to do so. Since the device is branded as Note, like all the other Note devices, even this one will come with S Pen functionality and all the Samsung specific exclusive features. This will be the fourth Note product, and since it will be directly competing with Apple’s offering, it will also be priced lower than the iPad mini, which means Apple has got more reasons to worry about.
