A QWERTY Android device from Samsung has recently been leaked online validating previous rumors that the Galaxy M Pro, which was released in November 2011, will have a successor. Samsung Galaxy M Pro 2 specs, feature, pricing and availability together with some photos were revealed a couple of days ago.
The Galaxy M Pro 2 is the kind of Android smartphone you don’t see every day. The fact is there are very few who know a QWERTY-style phone exists in Samsung’s portfolio. Having been able to overtake Nokia as the world’s largest phone manufacturer, Samsung gave more emphasis on touch smartphones.
Being a successor, the device should be better, faster and comes with features the previous model does not possess. However, based on initial specs Blog of Mobile published, it is simply a slight upgrade from the previous model. So, let’s try to look a little closer into what Galaxy M Pro 2 has in store for those who are into QWERTY-styled smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy M Pro 2 Specs
Hardware. It is rumored to come with a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz. The first model only has a single core CPU with the same clockspeed. While we cannot say the processing power was doubled, there is a noticeable difference between processors with one and two cores. The RAM hasn’t been revealed but it is said to come with a microSD card slot like its predecessor.
Display. With 2.7-inch screen, having 480 x 360 pixels resolution is the best you could get. Rumors have it Galaxy M Pro 2 will be using the LCD technology with touch support. Basically, aside from the QWERTY keyboard, certain commands can be executed via touch.
Camera. It has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and VGA for the one on the front. It’s not impressive but it is just “okay” for a device like this.
Battery. If rumors were true, then Samsung may have made a mistake for this device. It is rumored that the Galaxy M Pro 2 will only have 1,200mAh battery; lower than its predecessor’s 1350mAh battery.
OS. It will be released natively running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and there’s no word on whether it can be updated to Jelly Bean or not. The previous model was released with Gingerbread but if memory serves me best, there were not updates released for it since it was released.
Samsung Galaxy M Pro 2 Pricing and Availability
Reports suggest the device will be marketed under $200 but there’s no solid information when it would make its debut. Previous reports said it will be officially unveiled at CES 2013 (which is currently happening) or MWC 2013. Let’s wait a few days to see if Samsung will, indeed, reveal it. Otherwise, we wait for MWC.
