Last week, it was rumored that the South Korea-based mobile phone maker Pantech, would be unveiling a new Full HD smartphone this week.

Today, the company touted as the third-largest handset manufacturer in Korea took the wraps off the Vega No. 6 in its home country.

The Pantech Vega No. 6 features a massive 5.9-inch display with a Natural IPS Pro LCD panel with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Despite its large size, it will not be able to boast of being the biggest phablet: the Ascend Mate from Huawei takes the cake for that one, with its 6.1-inch display.

Under the hood, the handset comes with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. There is also support MicroSDXC that accepts as much as 2TB worth of extra storage. Its graphics processor is Adreno 320 while its operating system is Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.

Adding to its list of specifications is a 13 MP rear-facing camera complemented by a 2 MP front-facing camera.

Supported connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, GPS, T-DMB, and USB 2.0. It is furthermore packed with the following sensors: accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and electronic compass.

The handset draws its power from a 3,140 mAh battery.

Its dimensions of 158.6 x 83.2 x 9.9 mm, as Unwired View notes, makes it among the largest handsets available today. Meanwhile, its weight is 209 grams, making it quite hefty.

Given these specifications, Pantech might not be able to get much attention, as so many other companies have released handsets with 1080p displays before it.

As for its pricing and availability, the quad-core beast will be sold for 849,000 won, which is roughly US $795. The Korean mobile operators, including LG U+, SK Telecom, and KT, are expected to include the device in their product offerings this year. Pantech has not announced whether the device will also be released outside Korea.
