Facebook co-founder and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is hosting a political fund raiser sometime in the next month at his home in the California city of Palo Alto. The fund raiser is for the New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, according to reports. This has been a news of shock and joy for many, for the obvious reasons.
Chris Christie is seen as a possible contender for the new US President, and is already a very high profile Republican. The funds that will be raised by this fund raiser hosted by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan will be used for the re-election bid for Chris Christie. Indian Express writes:
Zuckerberg’s relationship with Christie dates back to 2010, when the 28-year-old native of New York state made a USD 100 million grant to a troubled New Jersey public school system.
When the announcement of the grant was made, Chris Christie had accompanied Mark Zuckerberg to the Oprah Winfrey show, on which Mark made the announcement. They had “vowed to turn the city’s failing school system in a national model of excellence.”
Coming back to the fund raiser of the next month, it is going to be an invitation only fund raiser, as reported on the news website Buzz Feed. Also, the Daily News reports that each guess is asked to make a donation of 3,800 USD.
The New York Daily News quoted a Christie strategist as saying that the governor is “gratified to have Mark and Priscilla’s support.” A lot of eyes are already fixed on this fund raiser and is going to be one of the most talked about merger of an internet technology company with politics. Now, another question that the fund raiser raises is how the world’s most loved social network will profit from this. Would you like to make any guesses?
