HTC’s poor showing in the market is not news to us, as we’ve all heard of the company’s dismal run in 2012. However, the company is always striving to make a comeback with competitive offerings and has been fairly successful at that with smartphones like the HTC Butterfly and the Verizon Droid DNA. These smartphones actually saw a very limited and exclusive release, which meant that the Taiwanese maker had to come up with something for the rest of the world too, albeit after some waiting. That smartphone I’m talking about, as we all know, is the HTC M7 which has been spotted in the rumor mill on several occasions. And a couple of days ago, we reported that the device was going to be announced at a dedicated HTC event on February 19 instead of launching at the MWC 2013 event in Barcelona which is taking place a couple of weeks after that. And now, we’re learning some new info about this alleged HTC flagship. It is believed that the device will hit retailer shelves on March 8th after the official unveiling on the 19th of February. That doesn’t seem like a lot of waiting after the initial announcement and it should be interesting to see how the market reacts to the arrival of the HTC flagship and the Sony Xperia Z which launches at about the same time.
The report further states that the smartphone will be made available in two color variants in total. We’ve already seen the black variant plenty of times, or at least we think we have. But there’s apparently a white and silver variant too, which we’re eager to look forward to. Reports have suggested that in expectancy of high demand for the smartphone, HTC has set a goal to manufacture about 4-5 million units in the first quarter of 2013. There’s a high possibility of the next HTC flagship being a success as it’s one of the hotly anticipated phones of the year. The sad news however is that the American fans might have to wait a bit longer to get the device on their respective carriers as HTC will take some time to test it with the carriers’ networks. Regardless, it’s good to see that the smartphone will be available in a little over a month from now. And eager users can always import it from international retailers with relative ease. For now though, it seems like the HTC M7 (or whatever it will be known as) will launch as per schedule on February 19.
The smartphone is expected to feature a 4.7-inch 1080p FHD Super LCD 3 panel, a quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro or the newly announced NVIDIA Tegra 4 SoC, along with a massive 13MP camera with an upgraded HTC ImageSense chip and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with the brand new Sense 5 user interface which we’ve seen a couple of times in leaks. We would like to see HTC add a bigger battery pack on this smartphone and also possibly add in a removable microSD card slot too. These last two features are certainly on my wishlist.
