There has been plenty of talk about Samsung and its 2013 lineup of smartphones, but there hasn’t been enough clarity on them. Sure we spotted a leaked benchmark of a mystery Galaxy flagship which bore the GT-N5100 model number but nothing much has made its way post that. But now, it is being said that Samsung will launch one of the next major Galaxy devices in the upcoming MWC event. Details are scarce, but reports emerging out of Korean sources namely iNews24 and News1suggest that Samsung will unveil the new Galaxy Note 8 tablet at the MWC 2013 in Barcelona. These sources also stated that Samsung will not unveil the Galaxy S IV during the event. We weren’t expecting to see the Galaxy S IV at the MWC anyways, as Samsung is expected to host its own unveiling event in May for the next Galaxy flagship much like last year. The Galaxy S II if you remember was unveiled at the MWC 2011, but this new trend started with the Galaxy S III so we expect Samsung to follow on the same path.
It’s not clear as to what this new Galaxy Note 8 will feature, but the name suggests it will be a full sized tablet like the Note 10.1 from last year. This will certainly be a unique device in the sub 8-inch tablet segment and will make life harder for the Apple iPad Mini. The tablet is believed to feature an 8-inch 1280×800 display probably with the Exynos 4412 quad core chipset and with S-Pen functionality of course. These specs are yet to be confirmed, but we should most likely see them being used if the device is real at all. It’s rather disappointing that we won’t see the Galaxy S IV unveiled at the event, but we should most likely be treated to a barrage of new age droids at the event by the likes of HTC and LG. Let’s see how things pan out, and this new Galaxy Note 8 could certainly be a game changer if Samsung launches it during the course of the event. Packed with multi window and all the Samsung essential features, we can see it being a huge success in the market.
Whatever the outcome of the event, it isn’t news to us that there will be plenty of new smartphones on offer. LG is launching the Optimus G Pro with a 5.5-inch Full HD display while HTC is expected to unveil the M7 at the event. So there are plenty of things to look forward to, and the Note 8 would be the icing on the cake really.
