Samsung Galaxy S III owners recently received the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Now reports are coming in claiming that Samsung is working on the update to Android 4.2, the latest release of Jelly Bean. Based off of Samsung’s track record, the company is extremely slow with updates, which means Galaxy S III owners could be waiting some time before they see Android 4.2 Albeit Samsung did a lot of upgrades to Jelly Bean on many of their devices in December.
AutooMobile claims that Samsung has confirmed a few of their devices to get Android 4.2. While the source hasn’t listed the devices that will be getting the smartphone, it is safe to assume that Samsung’s recent releases like the Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III Mini will receive Android 4.2.
Samsung could actually get the Android 4.2 update ready extremely fast if their updates in December have to say anything. The real wait for the update to Android 4.2 we will no doubt be seeing lays on the carriers shoulders rather than Samsung. As you know, Verizon and T-Mobile were some of the first U.S. carriers to roll out Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III a good month (or two?) ago while Verizon only rolled out the other week.
Hopefully we will be seeing more information on Android 4.2 updates as CES 2013 and MWC 2013 commences. In the meantime, interested Galaxy S III owners can get their hands on Android 4.2 if they are willing to root their device and flash a custom ROM.
