Oppo Find 5 Specs Official; Comes to US for $499 Without Contract

Just a few days ago, I highlighted how high end phones out of China are making it big entering the US and the European market and upsetting the balance and dominance of popular brands such as HTC, Samsung, LG and Sony.  Not too long ago, Xiaomi Mi2 entered the market with some of the most impressive specs and not long after that rumors of Oppo Find 5 surfaced.  Oppo is not a very popular name outside Asia but it made a name for itself when it introduced the world’s thinnest smartphone Oppo Finder which is only 6.65 mm thick back in July.  This time, the company is introducing a revolutionary 5 incher smartphone boasting of a 1080p high definition display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and 2 GB RAM.

The Oppo Find 5 is an impressive gadget but most of us were worried that the phone may not find its way to the US market and we’d have to buy it out of China but it turns out Oppo has done us a favor and is bringing it to major networks – at a subsidized price of $499 off-conract.  This is a surprising development considering that other small Chinese manufacturers who have made news headlines for impressive devices such as Xiaomi and Meizu did not launch their devices and bring them to the US market.  This jut reinforce the belief that most Americans are having a change of attitude towards China-made electronics from small companies as they were once regarded as poor quality and often knock-offs of gadget from major companies.

Backto Oppo Find 5, the phone will be the direct competitor to HTC’s Droid DNA which too comes with a HD screen and Samsung’s 5 inch Note II phablet.  The biggest advantage that the Finder 5 will have over these two five inchers is the price.  While it is set to retail at $499 without contract, HTC Droid DNA sells for $600 while the Note II would set you back $749.  But then, how is the Oppo Find 5 in terms of specs?

Earlier today (Yesterday Chinese time), Oppo officially released the specs of their flagship device.  The phone sports a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064  processor with an Adreno 320 graphics chip, 2 GB RAM and a choice of 16 or 32 GB internal memory, a 5 inch IPS Capacitive multi-touch FHD 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution screen with an impressive 441 pixels per inch resolution density and is available in white and black.  Unlike most phones out of China, the Oppo Find 5 come with a single SIM slot but it supports 2G, 3G and 4G channels.  It also comes with the standard Android smartphone specs including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connectivity options and built-in GPS with A-GPS support.

The Oppo Find 5 comes with 2 cameras: a 12 megapixels Sony Camera at the back and a 2 megapixels front camera.  To get the most out of the phone, it comes equipped with a 3D compass, light sensor, proximity sensor and a 3-axis gyroscope.  Other special functions include wireless charging capability, NFC support and replaceable back covers for those who may want to go for different colors or covers made of other materials such as steel o carbon fiber.  As a final point, the Oppo Find 5 features a 2,500 mAh built-in Polymer Li-ion battery and comes pre-installed with Android 4.1 Jelly Bea operating system.

If you are interested in this 5 incher and want more information on the specs, availability dates and where to get one in the US, head on to the company’s US website.  Meanwhile, let us know what you think the entrance of such high end phablets and smartphones from China into the local market has on the competition by major established companies.  Would you buy the Oppo Find 5?
