RIM’s BlackBerry 10 platform is all set to be announced on January 30. However, there’s no info on which countries will get the new BB smartphones, but there have been reports of RIM working with top carriers to bring their devices to the fore. However, Vodafone UK has confirmed to a blog that the smartphone will hit the carrier when it is launched. The device apparently will be available for launch on the same day, i.e. January 30, which is a little odd to understand as the device is being announced that day. Perhaps it’s just a pre-order listing of the device, but regardless it’s good news that the carriers are showing faith in RIM and its new platform. Expect the hype to build on as the days get closer to the announcement of the platform. It’s not clear as to how many devices RIM will announce during the course of the event, but this confirms that a minimum of one smartphone will be making its way to Vodafone UK.
As we know, RIM has plans for a touch only BlackBerry 10 device (L-Series) as well as a QWERTY keyboard equipped BB (N-Series), true to its roots. However, it has been said that the touch version will be given more emphasis as RIM has failed miserably with touchscreen phones in the past (Storm, Torch etc) and it desperately wants to do better. It seems like a fair amount of work has gone into the making of BlackBerry 10 which means we could be pleasantly surprised with what the folks have to offer. There’s still an aura of mystery over the device’s availability on American carriers, but it seems pretty likely that the device will make its way to VZW. RIM has certainly managed to get us all excited about the device and we should expect no different from a company which is struggling for survival. We’ve already seen what the device looks like, now all that’s left to see is if customers take a liking to the platform. BB loyalists couldn’t have been more excited as this is undoubtedly the biggest upgrade BlackBerry has ever seen.
BlackBerry fans in the UK now know where to find the first lot of BlackBerry 10 smartphones. We’re hoping to have other carriers come out with spicy details like this as the days go by.
