Barnes & Noble has announced that the price of the NOOK Simple Touch eReader has dropped from $99 to $79.

The “ultra-light and super-thin” device is now available from Barnes & Noble’s retail outlets, Barnes & Noble College Bookstores,  retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, and online at www.nook.com.

The NOOK Simple Touch eReader comes with an ergonomic design and is ad-free. This basic eReading device is equipped with a 6-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and 16 levels of grayscale tones. This screen features E-Ink Pearl technology that makes the content on its screen glare-free and thus easy to read even when it is used in bright sunlight. It also comes with Best-Text Technology which ensures that fonts are sharp on the device. Users have the option of adjusting text according to their preferences with seven font sizes and six font faces.

Its internal storage has a capacity of 2GB which is equivalent to 1,000 books. Users, however, can use a microSD card to add extra storage for up to 32GB. Its supported file types include PDF, ePub, JPG, GIF, PNG, and BMP.

Barnes & Noble claims that the eReader offers faster page turns by as much as 25 percent and 80 percent less flashing as compared to other eReaders.

The device comes with support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity and gives users access to the NOOK Store, where they can choose from over 3 million digital books from a wide range of genres. Also onboard is the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition.

On a single charge of 3 ½ hours from a computer, its battery can run for more than two months when used for thirty minutes of reading daily.

A box of the eReader also comes with a Quick Start Guide as well as a microUSB Cable which may be used for charging the device or connecting it with a computer.

The NOOK Simple Touch eReader measures 6.5 x 5 x 0.47 inches and weighs 7.4 oz.
