There has been a lot of speculation about when Windows Phone OEMs will roll out the WP 7.8 update to its current lot of legacy WP devices. The likes of Nokia, Samsung, HTC are among the top manufacturers of Windows Phone devices, and have plenty of devices in the market too. Despite that, there was no clarity on the roll out of the update to their respective devices. But that was until recently when we heard of the Nokia Lumia 800 getting the update, although it proved to be a false alarm as Nokia was believed to be launching the update in early 2013. And now Samsung has come with good news for its Windows Phone 7.5 users. The company has just mentioned that it will be upgrading its entire lineup to Windows Phone 7.8 when the time arrives. The company seems to have confirmed this with an Italian Windows Phone blog, so we can presume it’s fairly legitimate. Although the company failed to mention a specific time frame as to when users should expect the update, it’s good news for the users to just know that an update is on the horizon.

Here’s what Samsung had to say (translated from Italian) – “We can confirm that our products carrying the Windows Phone version 7.5, are updated the [version] 7.8

Nokia Lumia devices should get the update in early 2013 as previously mentioned. LG doesn’t seem all too excited about its Windows Phones and isn’t a Microsoft partner anymore since WP8. LG Poland responded to a customer query last month and stated that its Optimus 7 smartphone will not be seeing the WP7.8 update. So only Samsung, Nokia and HTC are the ones slated to send out the new update. Considering this is mere consolation for WP owners, I don’t think they would particularly mind waiting. This will certainly spark up a new life among legacy Samsung Windows Phone 7 owners. Every Windows Phone 7 device out there has received the WP7.5 a.k.a Mango update. So I guess compatibility shouldn’t be much of a problem. However, users would have been happy to know the release date of the update, but I guess that’s not possible with carriers involved in the middle. One of the popular WP7 devices, the Samsung Focus still has a ton of users. So the update is very welcome. Are you one of them?
