Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III has had an abundance of leaked software updates, but it looks like we may be seeing these leaks slow down significantly. Earlier this month, we saw a leaked and unfinished build of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S III, but it did contain an abundance of bugs and really wasn’t usable as a daily driver unfortunately. Even though it wasn’t a usable build it was good to see that Jelly Bean was getting closer to becoming a finalized build for the Galaxy S III.
While the leaked build from earlier this month wasn’t that great, much progress was made in a leak that was posted yesterday. It addresses quite a few issues, which as you can imagine, is going to be very valuable for a lot of the ROM developers, specifically over on XDA. Being a leaked build, there isn’t any official documentation as to what has been changed, but there are many users that are claiming to see some improved performance and stability in the leaked build. On top of that, the man that leaked this new firmware build said that this could very well be the final Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OTA update that is set to arrive for Verizon customers later this year (possibly early December). That said, there is a little bit longer to wait before you can get your hands on the official build (as usual with Verizon), but you just might want to check out the leaked ROM build. You may even want to play around with the leaked build to start creating your own custom ROM as well.
Now, hopefully we will be seeing Verizon release this update fairly soon if this is indeed the final OTA update. I really would hate to see them pull another move like they did with the Galaxy Nexus. As carriers roll out the Jelly Bean build, I think some people on Verizon are going to be pretty angry with the carrier if they don’t get their act together when it comes to updates.
In other news, the Galaxy S III received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update a few weeks ago on Sprint’s network, so we definitely that this update should be near ready for Verizon and maybe even the rest of the big carrier names as well.
Hopefully AT&T and T-Mobile will have some information of the update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with the Samsung Galaxy S III fairly soon. Various sources have said the expected release date for the update was in December, so we should be seeing more information soon!
Nevertheless, if you are wanting to download the (possibly finalized) leaked ROM in odexed or deodexed versions, you can find instructions on how to install either one at the below download links. If you are really big on developing custom ROMs for the community or are just wanting to play around with the new leaked build in general, make sure to let us know what you think about the overall update in the comments below!
