Samsung ATIV S delayed in Canada as well

Windows Phone 8 is by far the best mobile operating system Microsoft has ever created. Nokia and HTC were the first to launch Windows Phone 8 devices. Nokia’s flagship Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 have been selling really well on AT&T. If you are a Windows Phone 8 fan, you would have most probably heard of Samsung ATIV S.

Samsung was the first manufacturer to officially announce a Windows Phone 8 smartphone. Samsung ATIV S became the first officially announced Windows 8 smartphone on August, 2012. It is ironic that the device was the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone to be announced, but has not been launched yet and it seems like ATIV S will be the last Windows Phone to arrive.

Recently, I had written about delay in the launch on Samsung ATIV S and dealers from UK had reported that Samsung would ship the ATIV S from week 52 (last week of the year) onwards, and apparently now MobileSyrup has reported that Canada will also be looking at a December release. This is a really sad news for folks out there who are longing for this device from a long time.

The device has some impressive specs when compared to the currently available Windows Phone 8 options. When ATIV S is officially launched, it will be the first Windows Phone 8 device to have a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display. Apart from the 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, the Samsung ATIV S will feature a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and a choice of either 16 or 32GB of internal storage. The 8 megapixel camera is capable of shooting 1080p videos @30fps whereas a 1.9 Mega pixels secondary camera will be used for video calling purposes. The Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset has an integrated Adreno 225 GPU for graphics support and gaming, so that should be quite a performer when coupled with 1 gig of RAM.

There are hopes that the company will make this device available for the holidays which is fast approaching. Some of the tech news websites out there are expecting the device to be up for sale in early 2013, but we are expecting the device by mid of December. According to queries made by WPCentral to Samsung Canada about the device, the officials have confirmed a December launch and this is what they had to say:

“We are committed to launch the ATIV S nationally, on Rogers, Bell and TELUS, as well as Sasktel. We are planning to ship to carriers in early December, and should have supply at stores by mid month.”

Nobody’s sure about what exactly is causing the delays. According to some sources, since the device is using the same display as the one on Galaxy S3, which is still a hot product, the company is experiencing troubles in sourcing components due to production challenges. Rogers has already unveiled its pricing for the ATIV S, starting at just $149.99 on a 3-year plan. What are your thoughts on this?
