Sony Online Entertainment, LLC launched its most anticipated massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS) video game, Planetside 2, on Wednesday that was warmly welcomed by fans and gamers who have tried gaming with the beta version. Launched as a free-to-play, anyone can enjoy it without having to pay. However, one must enlist in one of the three empires (Terran Republic, New Conglomerate or Vanu Sovereignty) to be able to join in an epic fiction war that seeks to gain control over planet Auraxis.
Being an MMOFPS, this game offers unparalleled gaming challenges and experience as players face each other in ground, aerial, vehicular and hand-to-hand battles. Since the virtual characters in the game are controlled by other players, there is a real challenge as players would have to have a skill in order to win over other gamers.
“PlanetSide 2 sets the new standard for shooters,” said John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment. “With thousands of players fighting simultaneously across several beautiful, massive continents, the size and intensity of PlanetSide 2 has no equal. You’ve never played anything like it.”
While there are hundreds of new features added, PlanetSide 2 comes packed with all groundbreaking features of the first version such as enormous continents where intense ground to air battles take place and distinct empires each player can enlist with. Reviews would tell us majority of those who have played it gave the game positive feedback and ratings because not only does it makes an appeal to MMO fans, it also captures the heart of FPS gamers.
Sony Online Entertainment had to develop a specialized MMO game engine called ForgeLight to make PlanetSide 2 competitive in two genres it seeks to dominate. Unique features await both MMO and FPS gamers while they are given access to massive customization and warfare.
Among the most loved features of this game is its extensive skill tree and free-form class-based system allowing players to customize their characters, vehicles and weapons to match their personality and play-style. Some battles may last for days or weeks, so players are advised to form alliances and adopt special combat skills to be able to survive in a long-term tactical and strategic face offs.
Anyone who wishes to play this game can download a copy from Steam. This is a huge game with thousands, if not millions, of gamers playing each day so all you can get from it is fun.
