Nokia recently launched its Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 phones on AT&T, and both the devices have been doing really well. One of the main reasons for success of Lumia 920 apart from the fact that it is a new innovative piece of technology is its price tag. The device is retailing for $99.99 with a two year contract from AT&T, and the Lumia 820 is just $49.99 along with a two year AT&T account. You will be even able to find the Lumia 920 and 820 for $49.99 and FREE, respectively on Best Buy. Lumia 920 brings the change which people are looking for, and with that kind of pricing for a flagship device will of course make it a success.
Nokia is yet to launch Windows Phone 8 devices overseas. Yesterday, I had posted about unlocked SIM-free version of Nokia Lumia 920 being made available in UK via Clove Technology for £520.00, but that’s of course an unofficial release. Like in the US where Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 are exclusive devices from AT&T, EE have similar arrangements in the UK.
It was previously whispered that Nokia will be launching the new Windows Phone 8 based Lumia handsets in the Gulf market. According to an article posted by popular Saudi Arabia newspaper, Alriyadh, the Finnish mobile manufacturer was expected to price the new hardware at no more than SR2300 ($613), and Nokia has finally launched the device in the Gulf market officially. Nokia has announced availability and pricing for both the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 Windows Phones at a press event held in Dubai, UAE.
According to The Lumia Blog, the device will be made available in the Gulf market on November 25th, and Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be priced at AED / SAR 2499 (roughly converts to $680) and AED / SAR 1899 (roughly converts to $515) respectively. Now that the devices are officially announced, seems like Alriyadh got the pricing wrong by couple of dollars.
The markets which will be receiving the devices in question include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Morocco. The Windows Phones will be sold by du (www.du.ae) in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Mobily (www.mobily.com.sa) in Saudi Arabia (KSA).
Lumia 920 smartphone has been experiencing a lot of demand around the world. As mentioned above, Clove UK received the first lot and it’s already sold. This is what the Clove UK order page reads:
“WHITE STOCK – SOLD OUT. Any order already placed will be shipped from the first batch of stock. Other colours to be confirmed. These handsets are unlocked and can be used on any network.”
Despite being sold at a high price and only white color being available, the demand is quite high. Same is the case with Telstra Australia and this is what they write:
Out of Stock
Sorry, we have no stock left of this phone for pre-order. We’re working on getting more in, so please try again soon.”
