A little while ago we heard that ASUS had said Nexus 7 units were rapidly approaching 1 million sales in the month of October, but that’s not where the success of the ASUS-manufactured Nexus 7 ends. More information is revealing how many total units that they have shipped for the entire year of 2012. According to DigiTimes, suppliers are reporting that ASUS will be shipping a good 5 million Nexus 7 units for the whole of 2012. The Nexus 7 launched back in July of this year, which makes it quite a milestone to reach 5 million units that fast. Google slashing the price of the Nexus 7 16GB model and releasing a 32GB Nexus 7 model along with a HSPA+ model surely had to help this number increase significantly (not to mention all the hype surrounding the two new models).
The report says that numerous manufacturers reach their peak manufacturing in October and November. With the holiday’s just around the corner, it’s obvious why these specific months are manufacturers peak manufacturing dates. Aside from that, what company would want to miss out on the big holiday sales? Regardless, ASUS intends on keeping their shipments high until the end of 2012. With the launch of the new Nexus 7 models, this is no doubt more than a possibility. In fact, as we get closer and closer to the holidays and due to last minute shopping, ASUS may even surpass their 5 million unit goal.
It’ll be interesting to see what the final numbers look like at the end of the year. I’d even be interested in seeing a graph comparing sales to before the new Nexus 7 models were launched. In fact, I’d be interested in seeing how many Nexus devices were sold in total this year. The Nexus 4 has been a huge thing, especially around the holidays here. Not to mention that Google is preparing to launch a Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 bundle for consumers to purchase. It really would be interesting to see those types of numbers at the end of the year.
Now, if ASUS is able to keep the Nexus 7 models in stock all around the world, I think that it would be extremely easy for them to break the 10 million milestone. Again, that is the basis that they are able to keep Nexus 7 units in stock.
All we can really say is congrats to Google for producing such a fantastic device! I’m personally excited to see what the company has in store for 2013!
