After months and months of speculations and rumors, Apple finally unveiled the much anticipated iPad mini few days back. The iPad mini, as the name suggests, is a smaller version of the much popular tablet device from Apple, the iPad.
Many Apple fans have been waiting for this device and the good news is that Apple is accepting pre-orders for this device. One can pre order iPad mini for $329 on Apple’s online store now.
It has been already made official that the tablet device will be made available in both Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + cellular variants. The ‘Wi-Fi only’ iPad mini will set you back by $329, $429 or $529 for 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB storage, respectively. On the other hand, the ‘Wi-Fi + cellular’ trim of iPad mini is priced at $459, $559 or $659 for 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB storage, respectively.
It was previously said that the devices will start shipping from November 16th onwards, and the cellular variant will follow after some two weeks, but according to the recently acquired information, the WiFi variant of iPad mini will be shipping as soon as September 2, and the Wi-Fi + cellular model will be shipped some time later, most probably around mid-November.
Though the wi-fi only trim will start shipping in few days, analysts expect that all the orders won’t be fulfilled. There’s no doubt that Apple is indeed experiencing a lot of shortages from component suppliers. Samsung used to be one of the biggest display unit suppliers for Apple, but due to the recent court cases, their relationship has taken a major hit. Apple has switched the suppliers and is said to be sourcing displays from another South Korean electronics giant, LG. Apple will be relying on LG to supply the 7.9 inch display panels that will be used on the all new iPad mini, and apart from LG, Apple is also said to be sourcing the panels from AUO which unfortunately is experiencing issues in production of 7.9-inch displays.
DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim writes in a new Analyst Blog post “The new low price point is expected to appeal to a wider audience and drive up demand,” Shim said. “However, panel supply chain indications point to an even more than typical tightness in the market for the iPad Mini.”
The iPad mini is comparatively a more affordable and compact solution for consumers who feel that the 10″ iPad was not mobile or compact enough to be carried everywhere they go. The iPad mini features a 7.9″ display with a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels, a dual-core A5 processor, 5 MP main camera and LTE in case it’s a Wi-Fi + cellular variant. As with all the Apple products, the iPad mini has an exquisite design and is built with high-quality aluminum which makes the device very light in weight while having remarkable thinness. The tablet will be available in either black or white color. Since Apple is experiencing shortage, we suggest you to pre-order early if you don’t want to end up waiting a month.
