Samsung’s Kevin Packingham said the sale of the company’s flagship Galaxy S III surprisingly increased weeks after the release of Apple’s iPhone 5.
Samsung pulled off another huge victory in their ongoing technology battle with Apple after it recorded four of its five best-selling weeks in the United States following the release of iPhone 5.
According to CNET reporter Roger Cheng, the strong sales of Samsung Galaxy S III on the market only shows that majority of consumers were not impressed with the pricy iPhone 5 and opted to purchase the Korean tech company’s flagship phone.
“I was shocked by the number. I thought: ‘What the heck is going on here,?” said Packingham, who serves as the chief product officer of Samsung’s U.S. mobile arm, said in an interview.
The spike in the sales of Galax S III proves Samsung’s increasingly growing dominance in the smartphone business segment, catapulting them on top of the device and services industry.
Moreover, economic experts predicted another strong run for Samsung in the coming holidays as it continues to generate more buzz for the release of its latest product: the Galaxy Note 2.
On Wednesday, Samsung held a party for media, d-list celebrities, and several Samsung followers in its New York headquarter as part of its build up for its new tablet.
“It’s the holiday season and they needed something to generate buzz around its products,” economic analyst Avi Greengart told CNET.
Samsung’s marketing strategy has been running like a well-oiled machine as of late, expanding their market coverage by coming up with designs and features that gets the taste of all ages.
The Korean firm recently recorded quarterly profit of $7.4 billion driven by enormous profit they gained from the sales of their Galaxy line of smartphones. Apple had an $8.2 million profit for the third quarter of 2012 but it is significantly lower than expected.
