“Confirmed” Specs and Rumors of the 5-inch HTC DLX

Tweets from reputable twitter accounts @evleaks and @football4PDA yesterday ‘confirmed’ some rumors that have been doing rounds over the past couple of weeks regarding a 5 inch HTC device dubbed HTC DLX.  This 5 inch phablet is suspected to be in the works and is intended to bring HTC into the fray of high end phablets to take on market dominators such as Samsung Galaxy Note and Note II.  In line with the recent ‘leaks’ which were accompanied by a blurry picture of a red and black device, the confirmation shows that this may at last be the biggest and most formidable device of the year.

Factoring in all the credible leaks so far, the device is most likely to feature Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2, a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU with 1.5 GHz clock and Adreno 320 GPU.  The HTC DLX is also said to have a 480 pixels per inch density 5 inch 1920 × 1080 HD screen, 1.5 GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a 12 megapixels rear and a front 2 megapixel cameras, NFC and 4G LTE capability and a 2500 mAh non-removable battery.

Based on these specs, the device may be touted as one of the most powerful to enter the market in the recent or future times but there are a few specs that I feel should be improved if the DLX is to be a serious competitor to the current market leaders including Note II.  These include the 1.5GB RAM (This is a lot, I agree, but why not just top it up to 2GB?) and the 16 GB onboard memory could be better (with a 12 megapixels camera, HTC should certainly complement the memory and provide an option of 32 or 64 GB memory).

In other related rumors, it appears that the HTC DIX may be coming to Verizon when it is released, most likely before the holidays.  According to the Global Certification Forum, the device exists although it could not confirm whether it will go by the name Droid Incredible X (DIX) or DLX.  What is confirmed though is the model number which is HTC6435LVW.  Other rumored details of the device are HTC One X5 and Google Nexus 5 (the last two seem very unlikely though).  Whatever the name, the device specs seem to be consistent in almost all the rumors and leaks and it looks like an incredible phablet worth waiting for.
