Asus Taichi 21, VivoBook X202 Up For Pre-Order Prior To Launch

Asus has scheduled an official unveiling for its Window 8 lineup this coming October 23. However, some online retailers such as Amazon, NewEgg, B&H and TigerDirect, are already offering the new devices, namely the Asus Taichi 21, and the VivoBook X202, for pre-order.

The Taichi 21 is marketed by Asus “one of the most innovative PCs on the market” with its unique way of combining a tablet and a notebook. Its main feature is its dual displays, which lets users switch seamlessly from notebook to tablet mode and vice versa. The hybrid device is packed with a dual 11.6-inch IPS Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x1080 pixels and 10-point multi-touch support. Under the hood, it runs on a 1.9 GHz Intel Core i7-3517U processor and sports 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. It also offers a 128GB or 256GB SATA III SSD as well as Intel GMA HD graphics processor. The device has two USB 3.0 Ports, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Lithium ion batteries with a battery life of five hours. The Taichi 21 has dimensions of 12 x 0.60 x 7.80 inches and weighs 2.7 pounds.

Meanwhile, the Asus VivoBook X202 is a notebook computer with a capacitive touch panel for its display. It comes with an 11.6-inch LED Backlight HD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels capacitive touchscrreen with multi-touch functionality. There are two models available for this device: one runs on a Third Gen Intel Core i5-3317U processor clocked at 1.7GHz whereas the other is equipped with a Intel Core i7-3517U processor with a speed of 1.9GHz. The device also comes with 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 500GB of user memory on its HDD. Like the Taichi 21, it has Intel GMA HD graphics processor. The VivoBook X202 is fuelled by a 2 cell battery with that can be used up to five hours on a single charge. Also onboard is SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, built-in speakers, the instant on 2-second resume feature, and automatic backup.

As for the prices, the Asus Taichi 21 is retails for $1,300. On the other hand, the Asus VivoBook X202 is valued at $600. Both of these mobile devices are also available for pre-order on the Asus official website.
