Sony Xperia ion will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update “next week” according to the post on Rogers Canada’s Twitter page. The specific date hasn’t been disclosed yet but it’s about time Sony will release and update for Xperia ion despite the fact that it is stable with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Xperia ion was released in January this year exclusive to AT&T customers only but it was released for international audience in June. It was one of the most applauded Sony devices as it received really good reviews for its stability and 4G LTE capability.
Just recently, it was Sony Xperia CA that revealed an ICS update has been rolled out for Xperia S, Xperia Mini Pro and Xperia Pro. This is in line with Sony’s promise to roll out updates for majority of its devices in Canada.
Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich update is usually a huge firmware to download as it contains hundreds of new features, a totally different architecture, and lots of improvements and enhancements. Aside from these things, Sony is seeking to provide its customers better performance to go along with superfast data transfer speed.
For now, there is no information whether Sony will be or is developing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for this device but based on the specs, Xperia ion can run the latest OS version without a problem.
It comes packed with Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and a complementary Adreno 220 graphics processor. Xperia ion’s 1GB RAM is also a guarantee of a better performance. The fact is this amount of memory is more than enough for mobile processes.
Sony is basically going aggressive in its marketing strategies and there are a lot of new devices lined up for release this year. It’s a good thing the company didn’t forget to roll out updates for its flagship devices. Surely, there will be more updates to be rolled out in the following weeks or months.
