Despite the recent loss against Apple, life still continues for Samsung and the fact is that it is preparing to launch yet another budget-friendly device dubbed as Samsung Galaxy Y Duos Lite with model number S5302. It is apparently the cheaper version of Galaxy Y Duos, an entry-level and budget-friendly Android smartphone announced in December 2011 and released in February this year.
The Galaxy Y Duos Lite is just one of the many devices the South Korean manufacturer plans on releasing in the upcoming months. Just recently during the IFA 2012 event in Berlin, it officially launched the second generation of its smartphone-tablet hybrid, Galaxy Note. Samsung Galaxy Note II will feature a thinner and slightly bigger 5.5-inch screen and quad-core processor.
Clearly, Samsung is not only trying to capture the high-end market but also the entry-level market. In fact, Galaxy Y Duos Lite will complete the lineup of Duos devices which are planned to be released this year following the announcement of Galaxy S Duos that will be made available in Europe this month.
To explain why it is called Galaxy Y Duos Lite, here are the initial specs:
- 2.8 inches LCD capacitive multitouch display
- 832 MHz single-core processor
- Dual Active SIM
- 2MP primary camera
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS
- WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
- MicroUSB, Bluetooth
- 2GB internal memory
- MicroSD card slot supporting up to 32GB external memory
- 1200 mAh battery pack
Basically, with the display not reaching 3 inches in size, we can assume it would be smaller than any other Samsung smartphones ever released before. But small as it is, the 832 MHz processor is impressive; it offers the same power and performance as with the original Galaxy Y only that it is much smaller and hopefully cheaper.
Samsung should offer this handset cheaper than any entry-level devices to get noticed. Otherwise, it would become just a waste of effort and resources considering Android smartphone buyers these days are going for bigger and much powerful devices on the high-end level.
The pricing and availability of Galaxy Y Duos Lite haven’t been disclosed yet.
