Samsung Galaxy S III LTE version may showcase Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Recent reports are suggesting that the South Korean manufacturer and Apple’s fiercest competitor, Samsung, will be releasing an LTE version of its flagship—Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE. What made these reports more exciting is the fact that the new variant may be released running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.

This information, apparently, hasn’t been confirmed by Samsung yet but other reports relating to the roll out of Jelly Bean OS for Galaxy S3 units (both carrier-branded and international version) also suggest October as the perfect time. Thus, owners who are currently enjoying the services of this high-end smartphone as well as those who are waiting for the LTE version may have something in common next month.

Folks at Android Central published a picture of Galaxy S III LTE and claimed to have laid their hands on the device. They said that there’s nothing really extraordinary about it except that it will sport 2GB of RAM to complement Samsung’s quad-core Exynos processor. To confirm its existence, CNET Asia reported over a week ago that LTE Galaxy S3 may be released in Singapore in the last week of September for S$998 or US$801.86.

The unit that will be released in Singapore may be the same as the quad-core model for South Korea and other Asian countries. But Samsung said that the US variant will still feature Qualcomm’s dual-core processor using Snapdragon S4 chipset.

Obviously, Samsung is trying to hijack Apple’s iPhone 5 sales and popularity that is why it is on the brink of releasing Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1. Being a company so able to build high-powered, feature-packed smartphones, Samsung can easily release a modification or an improved version of its flagship to be able to squeeze more juice from it before another flagship is released.

There was some report suggesting the South Korean company will release another follow-up device (Samsung Galaxy S4) in February 2013 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. However, the company itself denied those reports and said they are still in the process of improving their current devices. That said, it may be a hint of confirmation that an LTE version of Galaxy S3 will be released in October.

As for the Jelly Bean update for non-LTE versions, it might also be true considering other manufacturers are now on the fast track to upgrading their devices and Samsung has to keep up with it.

The S3 LTE was on sale in Singapore today at S$998. The non LTE version is S$858. Cant trust the local sales to know what they are selling so will need to get clear model numbers and specs before buying.
