Nokia Completes Internal Probe, Says Action Taken Over Fake Lumia 920 Video

The Finnish handset maker has announced through an official statement that the internal probe it conducted over the showing of fake Lumia 920 PureView marketing video, has now concluded and that the debacle was caused due to poor judgement. The company has said that it has taken appropriate action but has not mentioned what the appropriate action actually is.

“Today, we concluded the internal investigation, and our findings confirm that poor judgment was exercised in the use of the materials,” the company said in an e-mailed statement. “As a result, we have taken appropriate action.”

The embarrassing incident started with the showing of a marketing video by Nokia, which was supposed to demonstrate the video and image capturing capabilities of the new Windows Phone 8, Lumia 920 smartphone. The new Lumia 920 smartphones come with the company’s PureView image capturing technology and features optical image stabilization techniques that is said to improve the quality of the content captured dramatically.

Soon after the videos were showed by Nokia, The Verge noticed something suspicious about the video and concluded that the video was not actually shot using Lumia 920 phones at all. This was immediately confirmed by Nokia, which apologised for the major goof up on its part and announced that it was launching an internal investigation into the matter.

Nokia has been struggling to survive in the current generation of smartphone market as it was slow to catch up and was overtaken by rival, Samsung electronics. The company has ever since, pinned its hopes on the Windows Phone platform, hoping its well designed Lumia devices, combined with the unique experience of the Windows Phone mobile operating system would turn the tide. The success of the recently announced Lumia 920 flagship Windows Phone and the Lumia 820 is critical for the survival of the Finnish company and the latest debacle has come at a wrong time. The company can only hope that customers are not affected by the whole matter and its image as an honest company is not tarnished.
