It was in the Tokyo Game Show 2012 that Sony (Sony Computer Entertainment) decided to unveil its newest model of PlayStation 3 gaming console. As we all know, the PS4 is yet to come and there’s no clear date as to when we will be able to get one. There’s no need to be impatient because the new model of PS3 is good enough to brighten our boring days.
In some way, we can say that Sony managed to put its gaming console to a major makeover. It used to be fat and heavy but now it is smaller and lighter. You could also notice the change in the console’s outer appearance and it now looks classier with its streamlined design.
Feature-wise, nothing much has change except for the fact that users will finally have that ability to change the console’s default HDD with a custom 2.5-inch drive. This particular option will eventually allow the users to use the console to boost their gaming experience. Nowadays, it is not uncommon for gamers to update or upgrade their games thru large DLC packs which would obviously consume a large amount of storage space.
In addition, the new Sony PlayStation 3 will be made available in two models. The 250GB model’s US release date has already been set and it’s going to be this coming September 25th. The console will be sold for $249. A special bundle will also be made available for $269 wherein the PS3 will be bundled with Sony’s Game of the Year edition of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Apparently, those who are interested to get the game as a standalone title will be able to do so as it will be sold on the same date for $39.99.
Meanwhile, those who are eyeing to get the 500GB model of the PS3 will have to wait until the 30th of October wherein it will be sold for $299. Europe, on the other hand, will be able to get the 500GB model for €299 and they’ll have the new PS3 with 12GB of Flash Memory for €229. The latter will be released on October 12th.
Just like the original PS3, the CECH-4000 series will consist of two high-speed USB 2.0 ports. It will have Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, Ethernet and HDMI. Aside from redesigning the appearance of the PlayStation 3, Sony is also set to release its latest line-up of new game titles such as Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Assassin’s Creed 3.
