Motorola Atrix 2 Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update has already started to roll out in India and many users reported they have already updated their smartphones on Wednesday. It seems like Motorola is keeping its promise to roll out the update in the 3rd quarter of this year or almost a year after the device’s release in October 2011. According to reports from users, the update can be downloaded over-the-air from Motorola’s servers.
The ICS update for Motorola Atrix 2, which is dubbed as 672.1.18.MB865.AsiaRetail.EN.03, reaches up to 257MB in size. So, depending on available internet connection, the download process may take a little longer than expected. It is advised that users should have stable WiFi connection with enough battery to power up the device. While there are a few reported cases, interruption during the update process may brick the phone.
Back in July, Motorola itself confirmed that the ICS update for this mid-ranger was already in development. Shortly after the confirmation, XDA Developers were able to pull down a leak, so those who were brave enough to take the risk of flashing unofficial ROM have already enjoyed the features of ICS on this device.
Some sources close to the production line confirmed last month that they are already testing the firmware making it just in time for roll out this month. While the update reaches India first, it is expected to hit other regions in the following days or weeks.
Motorola Atrix 2 sports a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 Cortex A-9 processor clocked at 1GHz complemented by 1GB RAM. ICS will surely run smoothly on this handset. While there is no information whether Motorola or Google is planning to develop Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for it, its specs may just be enough to run the latest Android version. But let’s wait for Motorola’s announcement. For now, it would be better to wait for the roll out of ICS update.
