The Sony Xperia SL was revealed last month via a leak from the database of the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. According to the website, an improved follow-up to the Sony Xperia S will soon be making its way to markets called the Xperia SL. In the leak, the device also carried the name LT26ii, and since the Xperia S was also known as the LT26i, the two phone models were surmised to have a lot of similarities in terms of their specifications, save for new color options as well as an overclocked dual-core processor.
About a month later, Sony’s website now bears proof of the Sony Xperia SL. The device is said to sport a scratch-resistant screen measuring 4.3 inches diagonally and have Bravia Engine display technology. The resolution would be 720 x 1280 pixels. This device will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon S3 processor running at 1.7 GHz. This processor will run alongside 1 GB of RAM. The device is said to have 27.8GB of native storage, meaning 25.8GB will be free for the user. The Xperia SL will likewise be equipped with a 12.1-megapixel main camera that has AutoFocus, LED flash, and the capability to record video in 1080p quality. This will be complemented by a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera that will be useful for video calls. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the operating system of choice.
These specifications do confirm that the Sony Xperia SL is an enhanced version of the Sony Xperia S . Among the upgrades introduced by Sony are a faster processing speed and a more recent operating system. Sony added the pink and silver color options to the black and white options that were available for the Sony Xperia S.
Sony has not disclosed when the Sony Xperia SL will hit the market as well as its selling price.
