The Philippines’ largest telecommunications company Smart Communications will be deploying the first 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) in the country starting this week. Just like any other telcos in the world, Smart promises that it is going to be the fastest data transfer Filipinos could ever see which reaches a download speed of up to 42Mbps.
While the deployment this week is the company’s official first batch roll out of its new service, there have already been a few areas where LTE was enabled like in select areas in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and popular Boracay where tourists often spend their vacation.
The Smart President and CEO, Napoleon L. Nazareno said, “Come August 25th, the Philippines joins the growing ranks of countries offering high-speed mobile broadband via LTE. This will be a boon to our customers and help power the country’s development.”
Smart invested around $PHP 67.1 billion (US$1.6 billion) for this infrastructure upgrade that will hit about 9,500 of its cell sites nationwide. The upgrade might take weeks to complete and Smart customers may experience downtimes of service, the aftermath would surely be appreciated by those who are planning to subscribe to the faster internet connection.
According to the Smart Chief Wireless Adviser Orlando B. Vea, this will enable the company to effectively expand their LTE network which will also depend on the market demand.
This service caters those who are into online gaming, video-conferencing, streaming of HD videos, and downloading large files. These activities will be made possible and hassle-free because of its fast and reliable speed.
The fiber optic networks and overseas fiber optic cable system of PLDT Group has strengthened this program to make sure that LTE’s high-speed broadband services offered is completely supported.
It has been reported that Smart has 50.9 million GSM network subscribers by the end of June 2012 and 1.63 million broadband subscribers.
“With Smart LTE, we can expect great things to happen in the near future. This will enable Filipinos to Live Faster and to Live More,” Nazareno concluded.
Because of the new fourth generation (4G) mobile service that is about to be launched by Smart and the excellent features that suit every other consumer’s need, there is no doubt that the number of customers who will embrace Smart Communications, Inc. will increase.
