Recently, it had been leaked that Samsung is preparing for the launch of a new media player that will be part of the Galaxy line of devices. Now, a report from Sammyhub indicates that the South Korean company has confirmed that rumor, and revealed that the new device will carry the name Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8. Samsung furthermore revealed that the media player sports a 5.8-inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels.
The player comes with a 16 or 32 GB of memory, which may still be expanded through a microSD card slot. It is also expected that the device will have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and have a 3-megapixel camera onboard. Other features include Wi-Fi connectivity, ChatON, as well as Learning Hub, which will give users access to content from different providers from South Korea. Bluetooth 4.0 and SoundAlive will also be available. Lastly, the device will be powered by a 2500mAh battery.
Samsung has not yet revealed the price of the media player or the date when it scheduled to be launched. However, Samsung had disclosed that marketing will begin in September, so the release date should not be too long after.
Meanwile, other rumored specifications from which had not been confirmed yet by Samsung are a dual-core CPU running at 1GHz, 1 GB of DDR2 Memory, a front-facing VGA camera, and TouchWiz + Motion UX. Moreover, it is said to have a gyro-sensor, micro USB, GPS, T-DMB, an FM radio.and stereo speakers. The Galaxy Player 5.8 is expected to come in two color options, black and white. Its dimensions are said to be 165.8 x 85.9 x 10.8, and it is weight is 223 grams.
Judging from the images, the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 appears similar with the Samsung Galaxy S III, except that it has a larger screen, and of course, less capabilities.
