Nintendo Flattens Rivals In Latest Japanese Charts

The creators of Mario (that we’ve all come to love), Nintendo, has increased its foothold in the very competitive Japan gaming industry, with it’s top 10 popular titles in this week’s recent software chart all found to be on various Nintendo platforms. One of their more known titles, Super Mario Bros 2 (it just recently came out), is leading the charge in the charts with almost 150,000 copies of the game sold. At its current rate of sales, we should be seeing the game break a million units sold milestone by this time of next week.

Weekly sales were generally up week-on-week due to Japan’s annual Obon holiday (a Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of ones ancestors). Nintendo has sold another whopping 111,857 units of their latest handheld console, the 3DS (I could of swore many didn’t like this handheld device), according to chart company Media-Create. The widely-known PlayStation 3 was the runner-up sitting at 16,777 units sold (which as you see, is a stark difference in units sold). While all that was in the process of happening, the PlayStation Vita had finally decided to jump up for air seeing the 10,000 barrier passed for the first time in almost a month.

Here’s the full list of hardware and software figures:
