Motorola Electrify 2 and Defy XT coming to U.S. Cellular officially

Smartphone war is heating up and U.S. Cellular is all ready to roll out two Motorola devices to its customers. The first handset is the Motorola Electrify 2 which will be hitting U.S. Cellular outlets on August 2, but it is available for online purchase from today.

Motorola Electrify 2 is the successor of Motorola Electrify or Motorola Photon 4G. The original Motorola Electrify offered a 4.3″ qHD touchscreen display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Adobe Flash Player 1 GHz, dual core processor, 1 gig of RAM, and 8 megapixel camera with HD video capture. Motorola Electrify 2 comes packed with a 4.3 inch qHD (540×960) ColorBoost display, 8 MP rear camera, VGA front facing camera and a body featuring Kevlar and splashguard protection. The phone is just 8.4mm thick and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor along with1 gig of RAM and 8 gig of onboard storage runs the entire show. A 1,780mAh battery takes care of powering department. Apart from all that, the device also includes Motorola’s SmartActions software. If you aren’t familiar with SmartActions app, it is a piece of software that allows users to define automatic actions the phone should take when certain conditions are met. Some of the neat things it can do include location based triggering. For instance, it can switch on wifi when you reach home or put the phone into silent mode when you reach your office. This feature has been available on Motorola Droid Razr as well, and can be a pretty good selling point. The device boots Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, and will cost $179.99 on a two year contract and $100 mail in rebate, however, the pricing may vary depending on user’s locality says the carrier.

The second device that is headed to U.S. Cellular is Motorola Defy XT. It is a mid range smartphone device which offers a 3.7 inch display, a VGA camera on its front and a 5 MP camera on the rear. Underneath the screen is a 1 GHz processor along with 512MB RAM and 1 gig of onboard storage. A 1,650 mAh battery pack that it houses is pretty standard in this segment. Unlike Electrify 2, Defy XT will be running Android 2.3 out of the box and it is worth noting that this device will not be receiving ICS officially. Defy XT is one of those tough phones manufactured by Motorola which are both water resistant and dust proof. Defy XT will be available for purchase from U.S. Cellular both online and in stores from August 3 onwards. Price tag isn’t disclosed as of now.

It’s sad that Defy XT won’t be running ICS, nevertheless, it’s a very good phone for those who would like their phone to survive rough situation. It has sturdy build quality and a very good trekking companion, given the price tag is right. On the other hand, Electrify 2 is a very good replacement for Electrify. Unlike Electrify, the new model won’t be coming with that classy kickstand, but that’s pretty acceptable as the device seems to have gone on a diet and runs Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.
