Absolutely everyone by now has heard rumors of the forthcoming “superphone” by LG, and those rumors are indeed very true. The Korean OEM has only just recently started their own “teaser” campaign to carry these rumors a little further. The Optimus G is set to have a Snapdragon S4 Pro and a whopping 2GB’s of RAM. Not only that, but the guys over at AndroidMX have claimed that they have gotten their hands on the LG Optimus G. Looks like we can an early look at this device, folks!
The LG E973 or “Optimus G” as described by the label, is a 4.7 inch device with a 1280 x 768 IPS display, packed with a Adrena 320 GPU, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, a good 2GB’s of RAM and the all-mighty quad core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor. After having the chance to play with the behemoth of a device, the AndroidMX guys have said that it “really flies.” I personally am not a fan of LG’s devices, but with the hardware that is packed in this device, I can easily believe them. It’s also worth nothing that what AndroidMX has revealed is not the final hardware or software even. That said, there is a high possibility that LG will be changing it up. That could mean even better hardware or even a stock release of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. While I’m not so sure Jelly Bean will do a whole lot to change the Optimus G”s performance based on its hardware, having Google Now is a nice feature.
The speculation is that we’ll be saying LG’s Optimus G unveiled officially at the IFA show in Berlin, Germany next week. However, it’s also possible that we won’t be seeing it at the show. While LG will be at the IFA show, they have previously said that they will not be showcasing any new smartphones in Berlin this year. Since the Optimus G is a prototype that AndroidMX got, it’s very likely that we’ll be having to wait a little longer to see a full review of the smartphone. In the mean time, this will give other companies time to get their foothold in the market before LG blows it away with the hardware the Optimus G packs (of course, months after LG decides to release it, we all know another company will take a step further).
Anyone excited to see what this new device is all about? I know LG isn’t a favorite company among smartphone users, including myself, but you do have to admit that this hardware is really going to pack a punch and might just be the best on the market when they release it. That is, if Samsung or some other company does not come out with something better by then. I can say right now, that I predict that the Optimus G won’t be very popular for two reasons. The first being LG’s reputation and the second being that Samsung is constantly pushing some of the best hardware (i.e. Galaxy Note 2). That said, LG might have a really hard time selling it with Samsung in the picture.
At the very least, I expect we’ll see this device by the end of the year or even early 2013. Anyone have any predictions for this device at all? Let us know in the comments below!
