Most times we hear about tablets and smartphones that are set to be released through some rumors and leaks – sometimes a mysterious post on some website, but rarely an official word. We are never too patient to wait on that. Anyway, with Lenovo, we have an official word on new tablets – three to be exact – that will be released in September. The IdeaTabs (A2105, A2107 and A2109) tablets, as they are called, are an intriguing trio which may hit the market in September. Here is a brief review of each of the tablets.
Lenovo IdeaTab A2105
The Lenovo IdeaTan A2105 is advertised as “Tablet, Smartphone, all in” on the Lenovo website – it sure is a great way to attract attention. This statement along brings in mind a gadget that is small enough to be a smartphone but large enough to be tablet – a phablet specifically. Is this really a phablet? Does it fall in the same category as the Padfone that you can turn into a phone with ease and back to a tablet?
This is a 5 inch tablet marketed to be the best deal for those who want long battery life. Offline GPS navigation, a dual SIM capability and is made with an internal stainless steel roll cage. This may just pass as a high end dual SIM Android smartphone, but the question is, how many people would be interested in dual SIM at this time. We do not know the specific details of its features and specifications yet but we know it comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and will be available next month.
Lenovo IdeaTab A2107
The IdeaTab A2107 is marketed by Lenovo as an ‘affordable Palm size entertainment’ gadget. This tablet sports a 7 inch screen, has 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities and like the A2105, comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Based on the tablet’s name and marketing slogan, wwe should expect at least dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 1GB RAM because no decent entertainment gadget could have less than those specs.
There is a high chance this is the Global version of the LePad A2107 released for Chinese market recently. If so, it will have a single core 1GHz processor, 16GB storage space and 1GB RAM. Other specs include a rear 3MP and front 2MP cameras, a 3,550mAh battery and dual-SIM support. We do not know if this will be so though, we just have to wait and see next month.
Lenovo IdeaTab A2109
The last of the IdeaTab tablets to be released next month is the A2109. This is a 9 incher tablet that is touted to be “full size fun on a small budget”, we just hope the ‘small budget’ does not go anywhere near $250. In the short teaser sheet, Lenovo says it is a great device for HD videos, social media and photos and features a front 1.3MP and a rear 3.0MP camera. The 9 inch screen has a 1280 X 800 resolution and has the capability to play 1080p videos.
Just like the A2105, this tablet too has an aluminum shell and internal roll cage. It looks like a decent tablet but I am not very sure its specs will be that impressive, considering that the rear camera has a resolution of 3.0MP when other tablets come with resolutions as high as 8MP. But then, maybe Lenovo put a lot of emphasis on ‘Small Budget’, we have no way to tell now.
