Are you a Keen developer who is keen to get an early taste of Qualcomm’s first quad-core processor on a tablet? News just came in today that BSQUARE, the popular distributor of Qualcomm dev kits, is offering a Snapdragon S4 Pro tablet for $1,299. The APQ8064-based sports mobile development platform is very similar to the dual-core ‘liquid’ slate that was released last year and has a 10.1 inch 720p WXGA display, a 2GB LPDDR2 RAM, 32GB inbuilt storage and comes preloaded with Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
If you are abreast with the mobile technology news, you will know that Snapdragon is not in the business of producing processors only; once in a while it produces high end hardware that are aimed at developers looking for high performance devices to test their apps and devices – mainly games and accessories.
If you are a developer and wish to get the tablet, you will be able to take advantage of the 2 extra asynchronous CPU cores as well as the new Adreno 320 graphics engine which is said to have as much as three to four times the processing power of the Adreno 225 engines that currently come with the top Snapdragon 4 processors. Aside from these, the tablet has a whopping 13 megapixel rear camera, dual 2 megapixel camera and seven Ultrasound microphones!
According to early tests carried out by our friends at Slashgear, the Snapdragon S4 pro chipset performed over 3 times better than the Galaxy nexus and other devices. Although the tablet is the center of the news, more people are however keen on the tablet’s processor and its features. The best news that came with this chipset is that it offers a great battery life and this chipset may as well displace NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 processor from the top spot as the most powerful mobile chipset in the market.
