The Huawei P1 S was the slimmest phone in 2012, but the title was quickly snatched from it by Oppo Finder. Oppo Finder is a Chinese smartphone and is one of the “proud to be made in China” products. At 6.65 mm of thickness, it is the thinnest smartphone known to mankind.
Oppo Finder boasts a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, Android 4.0, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and 16 GB of storage. In a bid to take away the “slimmest smartphone” title, another popular Chinese smartphone maker, ZTE, supposedly has something called Athena cooking in its lab. When launched, ZTE Athena would be called as thinnest smartphone at 6.2mm, which beats Oppo Finder by a mere 0.3 mm. Being thin doesn’t mean the internals aren’t that powerful. ZTE Athena is speculated to boast a 720p display, Cortex A15 processor (no word on the amount of cores), 64GB of internal storage and all running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Anyways, now that Oppo Finder is the current record holder, for it being thin doesn’t mean being weak. Above is a video of a guy using Oppo Finder to pound handful of nails into a piece of wood instead of a Hammer. We have seen gadgets being ground in mixer and many similar tests, nevertheless, this nail stress video is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
If you thought that 6.65 mm thin smartphone would have to be treated like your baby, the video will change your mindset. You can see the guy in video using Oppo Finder instead of a hammer, and the results are pretty great. He used device’s back, front glass, sides, the base and all possible angles, and the phone is still working like it has gone through nothing, which is really amazing. It may be as well called as world’s thinnest toughest smartphone under 6.65 mm category. The device did get few minor bruises on the sides once the test ended, but that’s pretty acceptable.
Taking all the capabilities and its build quality into consideration, it doesn’t carry a fat price tag either. At $393, it is a sweet deal and gives good value for your money, however, you may not be able to buy this fellow in US, but there is a high possibility that ZTE Athena may end up in your pockets via some carrier as ZTE is known to make some great phones that are launched globally. Let’s hope ZTE Athena comes with similar nail bashing build quality.
