Google Talk Down For Most Users

You may or may not have tried to log in to the Google Talk service this morning and found that the software is completely unresponsive. Some users have been able to connect but were unable to send messages while other users can not access their contacts or send messages at all. The good thing is that Google knows about the issue and is trying to get a fix up as fast as possible. The bad news is that Google has been forced to announce that there has been a service outage. This issue is not only affecting Google Talk but is also affecting other chat services in Google+, Gmail and all of their other IM clients.

This problem also seems to be affecting Android users, so it seems like it’s a universal problem and not just limited to the chat clients.

At the time of writing, it’s been down for 5 hours now. Google has posted an update to its Apps Status Dashboard that explains to users the problem at hand along with a estimated fix time:

“We’re aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users. The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 06:50 PM (ET) detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.”

Gotta love the Status Dashboard. They always, always have information their on a problem they are working on or know about, even.

This problem is affecting users all over the world and not just those of us who are in the U.S. Some users have reported that the service is working, but then goes on and offline every so often. We’ll keep you updated when Google announces a time that the service will be back up and running correctly. Until then, hopefully those of us (me) won’t be experiencing withdraw symptoms.

1:40PM EST UPDATE: Google claims that the issue has been resolved long before their set date to provide an update. I can confirm this as I was just now able to log into Google Talk and receive email notifications along with messages. Hopefully it’s been fixed for everyone, unfortunately I still see a few users having issues logging in across the world wide web. Google+ and Gmail also seem to be working again, along with the Android IM issues (thank goodness that’s fixed! It’s my only form of communication!).

If the service is working for you, or if it’s still down feel free to leave a comment below. Also, if you had issues with receiving messages on Google Talk, let us know in the comments below! Google claims they fixed it around 11:30am Eastern Standard Time, but I was only just now able to log in. If your still having issues (that goes for all Google services, Android, Google+, Google Talk and etc) let us know and we’ll keep the post updated!
