Galaxy S3 2012 Summer Olympic Games edition available in Taiwan

London 2012 Summer Olympics Games is right round the corner and just in case you were looking for Olympics themed goods, we want to let you know that you can buy an Android smartphone dedicated to this major event.

Samsung Electronics being the official sponsor of London 2012 Summer Olympic Games has launched Olympic Games edition of its Galaxy S III in Taiwan. The Samsung Galaxy S III is an Android smartphone designed by and the 2012 flagship phone of Samsung Electronics.

The internals remain same and the changes are strictly cosmetic. Samsung Galaxy S III runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device boasts a big 4.8” HD super AMOLED display, a 8 MP AutoFocus rear facing camera that is able to capture videos at 1080p full HD and 1.9 MP front facing camera does the job for calling. A 1.4 Ghz Quad Core Exynos processor runs the show underneath. It must be noted that the phone comes with 2100 mAh battery which is able to deliver a talk time of whopping 21h 40min. Other features include SVoice, SBeam, Bluetooth 4.0 and loads of other features which come along with Android.

The Olympic edition of device has a back plate with a stunning British flag design on it. Another back plate features a silhouette of a royal British guard. There’s an accessory for 3.5mm headset jack which features a royal British soldier, which adds to all the decoration. Functionality wise, the devices are sold enabled with Visa’s mobile payment app – Visa payWave, which can be used to pay the partners.

As interesting as it gets, a premium pack comes with three different mobile holders, each composed of a figure representing a Cyclist, a Weightlifter and a Taekwondo athlete. All the three holders feature a British flag painted at the base.

Official Olympics app for Android is available for download from the PlayStore, and apparently this app happens to be sponsored by Samsung. The app will keep you busy with stuff like Results, Live Schedule, Calendar Schedule, Sports, Medals, Athletes and My Games. A detailed review of this app can be found over here.

There’s no word on pricing of the whole device, but you can transform your Galaxy S III to the Olympic version by buying the back covers and other accessories. The back cover plates are said carry a price tag of $299 Taiwanese dollars, which roughly converts to $10 USD. A static wallpaper representing the same faceless British royal guard will be available for download via Samsung Apps on July 22nd. Along with the Official Olympics app, you will have your smartphone completely ready for the Olympics fever. The app can be downloaded from here and supports any Android device.
