Once solely a company manufacturing televisions, Vizio is now entering the niche of personal computers. Since its work on televisions, it has expanded on tablets and Blu-Ray players. The company will be releasing its new ultrathin laptops and all-in-one computers this summer.
Like many other companies today, Vizio’s designers seem to be inspired by Apple’s general sense of aesthetics, including its preference for sleek lines, gently rounded corners, and aluminum and stainless steel external frameworks. However, as with their television line, Vizio’s products are more budget-friendly than the high-end models from Apple.
Vizio has three laptops on offer. Two of these are ultrathin laptops measuring 14 and 15.6 inches are comparable to the size of the Mac Book Air. There is also a 15.6 inch laptop with a similar svelte appearance.
These laptops have already made a public appearance during CES in January, where some of the specifications were discovered. The Vizio laptops during the trade show had high resolution screens with 1600 x 900 resolution on the 14-inch model and 1920 x 1080 on the 15.6-inch laptop. There is hardly any branding on the device, save for a small logo and the name of the company in a small-sized font. There are no Intel or Nvidia stickers, either, giving the laptops a very minimalist feel. Inside, the ultrathin models have integrated graphics and SSDs. Meanwhile, the thicker version has an Ethernet port and a card slot, and comes with Nvidia discrete graphics.
Vizio will also be offering 24-inch and 27-inch all-in-one PCs which will likely have Ivy Bridge processors and discrete graphics. Vizio, however, is still keeping silent on the specifications, so we are not sure whether these have changed since CES.
It is too early to tell whether Vizio will be successful with these designs, but the company certainly has some good points to their advantage. For one, it assures consumers that these devices will not have bloatware that bogs down the machines’ performance. There will also be in-house customer support. Vizio’s products will be available from Walmart sometime during the middle of this month.
