Motorola Droid Bionic Gets Leaked 4.0.4 Build

While users of the Motorola Droid Bionic phone patiently wait for Motorola and Verizon to make available Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, users who are adept at flashing ROMS onto devices can enjoy a leaked 4.0.4 build.

Reportedly, the upgrade, which brings ICS functionalities like camera enhancements and new lock screen features, among others works smoothly on the popular handset. Hardware acceleration and better screen brightness have furthermore been mentioned. What’s more, the ROM can be purportedly flashed onto the device without having to root the phone in the first place. Instead, users can apply it through the phone’s stock .905 recovery. This possibly means that the ROM carries certification by nothing less than Verizon.

Being an alleged leak, however, this ROM may not be the final version that Verizon will eventually send out to Droid Bionic owners. Thus, it might have some kinks that have not been ironed out. Likewise, those who have no experience in installing ICS through flashing a ROM may have some difficulty with the process as it involves some technical knowhow. There will also be no official support from Verizon and Motorola if something goes wrong, and your best bet would be to look for someone in online forums for help.

On the other hand, those who simply can wait no longer need to make sure that they have the latest software from the most recent OTA update for the Droid Bionic. A backup of all files is also advisable as these will be completely erased during the upgrade process. The ROM file is available for download over at Droid Hive, which also provides step-by-step instructions on how the installation can be carried out as well as some reminders and caveats.

In the coming weeks, Verizon is expected to make an announcement regarding when Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be officially available for users of the Droid Bionic phone. Motorola also had been hoping for a release of ICS during this year’s third quarter, which starts next month.
