The Asus built Nexus 7 tablet came out with the Jelly bean treatment and the next Nexus device is already ready to receive the Jelly Bean update. The Samsung made Galaxy Nexus smartphone, the Samsung Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom tablet where the devices, announced by Google in the I/O developer conference, to get Jelly bean update. Now, the Jelly Bean over the air update is available for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, but – yes there is a but – not all Galaxy Nexus smartphones can be updated with the latest version of Android.
If the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone that you own is a “Takju” U.S. GSM version, then you are in luck. You will be able to update your devices with Jelly Bean right away. For those who own a different version of the Galaxy Nexus phone – hard luck – currently, there is provision for Jelly Bean to be installed on your device. But worry not. It only means that you will have to wait a while longer. Google is sure to make the OTA updates available soon to all three devices, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom tablet, and which is compatible with every version of these devices.
What about all the other Android devices out there waiting for Jelly Bean? You should understand that, getting the OS updates to these phones is in the hands of the carriers and the handset manufacturers. Many capable devices are still waiting to get upgraded with Android version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
So, in reality, it will be a long time before that all capable smartphones and tablets get upgraded to Android version 4.1 Jelly Bean. There are, however, kind hearted and hard working developers who come out with solutions for such matters. So, if you just do not have the patience to wait for your service provider to provide you with the update, there is always the alternate way to get your own Jelly Bean update, if you know what I am talking about.
